Update and Makeup Date for 13U BBSC Select Baseball Tryouts
by posted 08/08/2018

From Sam Greeenberg, Head Coach of 13U BBSC Select Travel Team

Hi all,

Thank you once again for bringing your sons out for the 13U Broadneck baseball tryouts.

I was extremely pleased with the level of talent on the team and all the boys were incredibly respectful, which goes much farther in life than just in the game of baseball.

A few important notes to reiterate. I will be holding a makeup tryout next Thursday, 8/16 at 6:00 p.m. If your son came to both nights this week, please do not have him come on the 16th.

I will only be having the tryout if a parent contacts me and would like their son to try out if they were not able to make both nights this week.

I plan on keeping 13 kids for the Fall/Spring team. I understand the Fall can be difficult with other sports going on and there may be conflicts, but all I ask is you please let me know well in advance if possible if your son will have prior commitments. This goes for other sports and other life events that are important.

If your son is playing another sport in the fall along with baseball, or if he is not planning on playing the fall but will in the Spring, please let me know at this time.

Regardless of your answer, it will have zero affect on the players I decide to keep for the team. I simply need to know what numbers I am working with.

Once again, I will be finalizing the team next Friday, 8/17 and practices will start the following week. Right now I am leaning towards having practice once a week on Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. based on field availability, but that is subject to change.

If you know now your son has another sport every Tuesday please let me know so I can try to adjust in advance.

Our game schedule is currently being put together, so unfortunately I have no updates on that at this time, but based on previous seasons I anticipate games every Sunday once the season starts for the Fall.

If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you once again for allowing your sons to tryout and I look forward to working with many of them this upcoming season.

 Best, Sam

Colt Bruins Win Championship
by posted 07/03/2018

The BBSC Colt Bruins took home the Arundel Baseball Co-operative Championship in a nail-biting 10-inning game that resulted in a 2-1 win over Severna Park 1.

The Colt Bruins finished the 2018 Spring baseball season with a 12-2-1 record and a 2-0 playoff record.

Jim Legg, the Colt Bruins head coach, had this to say about the team: "Along with these young men’s athleticism and strong baseball skills set displayed throughout the entire season, more importantly, they all played as a team with sportsmanship and humbleness."

Congratulations to the coaches and players on an outstanding season!

2017 BBSC Chuck Slaughter Community Service Award Recipients
by posted 05/30/2018

Current and former Broadneck High School baseball coaches are the recipients of the 2017 Chuck Slaughter Community Service Award.  These coaches have over the past several years developed a close working relationship with BBSC and its players—holding coaching clinics for BBSC coaches and skills clinics for BBSC players.  They have attended BBSC games and practices at the pre-high school age groups to discuss coaching and teaching concepts with players and coaches and their BHS baseball camps have been attended by scores of BBSC players.  They also provide an important service to the community in keeping high school students involved in organized sports.

Specifically, the awards were presented as follows, at a BBSC Coaches meeting early this year, where BHS coaches were speaking to our BBSC coaches:

  • To Jeff Herrick, former head coach of the Broadneck High School varsity baseball team, and Neal Herrick, assistant Broadneck High School baseball coach, for their commitment to developing Broadneck High School athletes and forging a unique working relationship with BBSC.
  • To Broadneck High School Head Coach Matt Skrenchuk and his varsity and junior varsity assistants for       reaching out to young athletes on the Broadneck Peninsula through clinics and training sessions with BBSC coaches and players.
  • To Richard Coughlin, for his unmatched dedication to youth baseball on the Broadneck Peninsula, as a recreation coach, a travel coach, one of the founders of the BBSC travel program and now as a baseball coach for Broadneck High School.

The Chuck Slaughter Community Service Award each year honors those who have been leaders in Broadneck area youth sports and particularly in creating a healthy environment and enjoyable experience for BBSC players and families.  The award is named after Chuck Slaughter, who prior to his untimely death was one of the biggest supporters and best friends of the BBSC Community.

Congratulations to Jeff Herrick, Neal Herrick, Rich Coughlin and Matt Skrenchuk and his assistant JV and Varsity coaches at Broadneck High School.

by posted 02/01/2018

2018 Bat Rule Changes

Cal Ripken Baseball Division - All non-wood bats must have USABat Marking. Barrel Maximum 2 5/8". No BBCOR Bats are permitted in the Cal Ripken Division. For T-Ball, bats must be marked with USABat T-Ball Stamp.

Babe Ruth 13-15 Division - All non-wood bats must have the USABat Marking or marked BBCOR .50. Bat Barrel - 2 5/8".

Babe Ruth 16-18 Division - All non-wood bats must be BBCOR .50 and no greater than -3. Bat Barrel - 2 5/8".

Note: Solid one piece wood bats are permitted for use in all divisions and must conform to Rule 1.10. No laminated or experimental bats shall be used in a game.

Tampering or altering bats may violate certain federal and state laws and voids the USA Baseball certification, as well as all manufacturer warranties. Rolling is considered tampering and would void the bat’s certification and make it illegal for play.
